Kruger Family Wines Chenin blanc Old Vines
Kruger Family Wines Chenin blanc Old Vines
The 2019 Chenin blanc Old Vines '1962' - Piekenierskloof is a beautiful wine. The grapes come from a very old vineyard, from the high-altitude Piekenierskloof in Citrusdal, owned by Potgieter van Zyl. After a soft and slow pressing, the juice fermented at low temperature on cement eggs, where it matured 'sur lie' for eight months. This is a beautifully intense chenin blanc, with great complexity and layering. Stone fruits, citrus fruit, flowers, minerals, brilliant acidity, a broad structure and great length. The taste is fresh, delicate, but at the same time powerful and rich, in the typical Old Vine Chenin Blanc style. This wine can certainly age up to 2027+ and certainly not drink this beautiful wine too cold - this is a shame about this beautiful wine.
Kruger Family Wines winemaker Johan Kruger was named Young South African Winemaker of the Year in 2005 and was awarded 5 stars by top critic John Platter. Johan's passion is Chardonnay but has also proven his talent over the years in many other varieties and certainly around Pinot Noirs Johan Kruger grew up on a family farm called Sterhuis in Stellenbosch (South Africa) and learned the art of winemaking at Jordan Wines Stellenbosch and abroad in the US and Burgundy - hence the fine passion for vineyard-specific terroir-driven wines.
